Plus 9 and very foggy when driving in. Clear up here..
Yesterday was the hottest April day since 1949. Cheltenham stifling and horses over heating.
I believe the racecourse were right to miss the long distance chase, but their decision to run the remaining races was a brave one..
Course vets agreed that it was the right call as they were prepared for all eventualities as all horses were dismounted at the top of the straight and immediately hosed down.. Proof was that there were less distressed horses yesterday than the day before.
Marathan runners suffer in the heat (London Sunday), not sprinters…
Again hugely competitive racing and by the time the bumper was run (last race) the ground had definitely tighten up…
Our two runners Diamond Gait and Lady Of The Night, who were inseparable on form and on home work, finished within a length of each other with DG in front at 8th.. Both horses found the ground quick enough and will now go on their summer holidays.
Cheltenham look after owners well and yesterday John and Penny Perriss lunched in the owners tent with Scott and Denise Marshall and Jane Way who bred Our Belle Amie.

I missed reading the birthday column in the Racing Post yesterday so missed the chance to wish Russell Field happy birthday.. we caught up with him to celebrate at the races..

Cheltenham held yet another sale after races....I wonder if these sales are becoming over done.. too many? There seems to be a select sale after every big meeting.. Punchestown have one next week too. Overcooking the golden goose?
