New Season, New Horses
I have been busy on the look out for new horses, travelling to Tattersalls in Ireland, Goffs in Doncaster and Tattersall at Cheltenham.
Tattersalls in Ireland was a new sale and like all other sales recently, trade was strong and most horses found new homes and I came home with a stunning 3 year old by Fame and Glory.
The following week it was Goffs Doncaster sales where Aiden Murphy (bloodstock agent) and I tried, but just failed to buy the top lot of the first day, Lot 67 A stunning Kayf Tara 3 year old gelding, Mags O’Toole won the day for Gordon Elliott.
At least we came home with two attractive youngsters who we were pleased to be able to buy. Lot 10 a full brother to Prince Llewellyn and Lot 27 a half brother to Those Tiger Feet by the very hot sire Jeremy. Here are short videos of both Lot 10 and Lot 27.
It was a frustrating day as it was not easy to find the right horse, but then there are several more sales to come.
Another long day at Goffs Sales and another two new horses brought for the yard. Lot 376 Peeping Tom who won his point in Ireland and by a young sire I like in Morozov and Lot 431 Alfie Corbitt an impressive point-to-point winner by Arakan. We have a useful bumper horse here by the same sire called Balleticon who finished second in his first bumper at Southwell this month.
Trade again was very strong and there was plenty of money around; Fame and Glory was the sire of the top lot, some sire and one we will miss hugely.
By the end of that week, the three unbroken 3 year olds I bought were already with Martin Jones being broken in. It’s important to get them going now so that once they are ridden they can come back and have 6 weeks out at grass before coming into training to learn to be race horses.
The month ended with the Tattersall Ireland sale at Cheltenham Racecourse, again a very competitive sale with record breaking prices. I picked up two promising horses with Lot 38 Hes No Trouble and Lot 19 Subway Surf while John Perriss purchased a lovely filly, Lot 68 Illuminated Beauty.

DERBY DAY
Derby Day and it's some time since I have been, last time on top of an open bus and wow what a day it was too; a very long one if I can recall correctly.
Aiden O’Brien did it again yesterday. He won the Investec Oaks with Forever Together who was rather appropriately ridden by his son Donnacha.
Aiden, as we all know, is a genius and of his five runners, four finished in the first five. Wild Illusion was second trained by Charlie Appleby. It was Aiden's 7th Oaks win.
How proud must he be to have all his children achieve such heights so early in their careers. Joseph, who was the last son to ride such fabulous races is now a top class trainer and was humbly trying to buy horses at Cheltenham this week. Watching your young son win the Oaks or Derby is akin to Archie Bailey opening the batting at Headingley yesterday aged 19 and scoring a 100; yes I too would be very proud.
Anyway back to todays Investec Derby. Aiden again holds all the cards. Bernard Kantor will be hoping to win with his Young Rascal. A really good result will be a win for Harry Dunlop with Knight To Behold. For me it will be Saxon Warrior.
